35 young motivated European met during 5.-10. February 2019 in Düsseldorf. We hosted on of AEGEE-Europe’s Y Vote Conventions, which was on the topic of participation in civil society. The conference took place in the Haus der Universität in the heart of Düsseldorf’s city center.
The participants learned, discussed and explored European Union politics, elections and different opportunities of participation in civil society. Starting with a basic lecture on the EU’s institutions on the first day, one of the highlights directly followed on the second day of our conference. Tibor Navracsics, EU-Commissioner, and Sabine Verheyen, MEP, visited our conference and gave the participants plenty of options to discuss developments in the EU relevant for youth today. In the afternoon a bunch of organizations which are active in the field of civil society presented their work and best practices of NGO work. This new knowledge learned in the first days of the conference was directly put into practice. The participants wrote recommendations for future parliamentarians to make the voice of the youth heard. All the outcomes are summarized in our result booklet.
Besides the intense program during the conference days there was also plenty of time to get to know each other. So, the participants had great fun with PowerPoint Karaoke, a Pub Quiz on the EU and a very emotional TED night in the Café Europa. “This event was really a life changing experience for me”, said a couple of participants before they had to leave back to their homes.
We want to thank everyone who made this conference happen. Our trainer team from the Y Vote project, our main organizer Jonathan and all the other people who helped us before and during the conference to realize this project.
